Fan & Belt

technical data -

Original fan belt had a 47.1/4" outer circumference (o.c.), was 5/8" wide (at top) with a 32° 'Vee' angle.

maintenance -

To be written...

problems -

Altho listed as alternatives in makers' lists, some replacement fan belts are too long, since the LD10 dynamo pulley will hit the steering box before the dynamo position adjuster reaches full travel.

removal -

Slacken dynamo on upper support bracket to enable fan belt to be removed. It may also be necessary to remove the O/S horn to get better access.

To fit a new belt:
1) Slacken dynamo on upper support bracket (if not already) and push dynamo towards the engine as far as possible.
2) Place the belt over the dynamo pulley and bottom pulley.
3) Use the starting handle to slowly turn the engine, whilst forcing the belt over the fan blades and onto the top pulley.
4) Pull the dynamo away from the engine (by hand) and tighten the bolt on the upper support bracket.

other notes -

The following parts are listed as equivalents :-

A Gates 'Hi-Power' B45 (#9003-2045) was found fitted to one vehicle, this has a top width of 21/32" and a height of 13/32" and fits very well, but is considered too long at 48" o.c. (at the time of removal it had stretched to 48.1/2" and the dynamo clearance was minimal).

Be wary of fan belts listed as suitable in makers' lists but which are too long, or too short (such as the Telemite 1606).

The Romac C776 has been tested and found to fit correctly, as has the Fenner B1180 and Challenge B45/01183CL. Note that the Fenner B1180 may also be listed as B45, or by code #240B0118.
